The guest suite at Matua Gardens Retreat ensures absolute privacy.
Guests are delighted to find they have it all to themselves.
With a private entrance and car park; veranda and deck with access
from the lounge and bedroom; spacious bedroom with luxurious ensuite;
lounge and dining solely for guest use, this is a true retreat.

The lounge dining area has a piano, extensive library, CD player and large selection of CDs, collections of historical memorabilia,
chess set, open fire and plenty of books and magazines. Or just curl up on one of the leather sofas and relax.
The native timbers in the original beamed ceiling and antique furniture lend a warmth matched by the flickering flames of the fire. Airconditioning cools the room on summer days.

The large bedroom has an ensuite with double spa bath, high pressure shower and separate toilet.
Shutters open for a view across the harbour.
Luxury toiletries from Linden Leaves, Living Light candles and oil burner set the scene for romance and relaxation.
We have a shower seat and non slip mats for guests with injuries or disabilities.

For your convenience Matua Gardens Retreat offers the following:
- One queen bed with individual pocket spring mattress, electric blanket, woollen underlay, choice of down, lambswool or hypoallergenic pillows, woollen duvet and lambswool blanket.
- Airconditioning and central heating throughout.
- Winter and summer weight bathrobes with slippers.
- CD alarm, wake-up calls if you really need to be torn away from your dreams.
- Ensuite with separate toilet, high pressure shower, double spa bath, underfloor heating, demist mirror, fan heater, heated towel rail, oil burner & fragrant oils, lots of fluffy towels, hair drier, candles and a luxury range of toiletries.
- Snacks including fresh fruit, home made cookies, snack basket, local cheese, crackers, home made chutney.
- Beverages including organic juices and soft drinks, beers, wines and water.
Extensive range of teas, herbal teas, coffee, hot chocolate.
- Private guest lounge with open fire.
- Writing desk with postcards, maps, information brochures, writing paper.
- Library of contemporary and historic books.
- Art, antiques and memorabilia.
- Private deck with outdoor furniture and umbrella.
- No smoking except outside.
- One couple or single only, no children.
- No pets on site (our last dog got old & we aren't ready for another just yet).
- Breakfast includes fresh seasonal fruit, home made muesli, seasonal stewed fruits and preserves, home made jams, an extensive menu of cooked options.
- Dinners available and range from a cafe style platter and bottle of wine to five course with wines matched to each course. Just ask for the price list and mention any dietary needs. We'll make you a menu to suit.
- Personalised packages which can include late check outs up to 3 pm.

Our home grown organic fruit, vegetables, nuts and free range eggs
are combined with the best local produce to create gourmet cuisine
which we can match with fine New Zealand wines.
Just unwind at Matua Gardens Retreat or explore the many tours, the winery,
artisan shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants in the area.
Matua Gardens Retreat is best shared with someone you love however,
singles are warmly welcomed too.
We specialize in tailor made packages especially romantic celebrations such as
honeymoons, anniversaries, proposals and birthdays.
Stay a day or a week and remember it forever.

Akaroa Harbour is a destination.
It isn’t on the way to anywhere.
For international visitors it is a great place to relax and be pampered after long
haul flights or to spend a few days before leaving the South Island.
New Zealanders tend to visit for time out and romantic celebrations.

Location:
Matua Gardens Retreat is in historic Robinsons Bay, Banks Peninsula just 1.5km from the Akaroa Christchurch Highway.
Akaroa is less than 10 minutes drive and Christchurch just over an hour.
Arrangements can be made for arrival and departure via helicopter.
Rental cars and buses are available from Christchurch.
Should guests require transport from Christchurch this can be arranged.
