Kaituna Homestead

Kaituna Homestead Boutique Bed and Breakfast
Banks Peninsula - New Zealand

Kaiituna homestead Boutique Bed & Breakfast Banks Peninsula New Zealand

Welcome to historic Kaituna Homestead
in the stunning Kaituna Valley on Banks Peninsula

Kaituna Homestead is a romantic idyll, one of the few remaining Heritage homes of Banks Peninsula,
perfect for a romantic or relaxing break away.
Just 40 minutes drive from Christchurch International Airport, close enough for a stop on the way south or
to explore Banks Peninsula, especially the enchanting French settlement of Akaroa.
Or have a day skiing at Mt Hutt. (1hour and 20 mins drive away).

You can probably talk Penelope into having a fabulous meal
waiting for you when you get back.
Alastair will pour a New Zealand wine, you can eat in the bay window
of the sitting room, or library or maybe you will be invited to the big table in the kitchen, before falling into a big bed with pure linen sheets and fluffy duvet with the only sound being the call of the occasional Morepork.
 In the morning be on your way after a delicious breakfast;
if you have time Alastair may proudly show you his South Suffolk stud flock.

Rhodes Suite

Named Rhodes in tribute to the family who established the valley, where the Homestead was built in 1900.
The Master Suite has the tranquil air of romantic days, its four poster bed is swathed in a pure cotton mosquito net,
a fluffy down duvet, and luxurious pure linen sheets.
The bathroom with a view has a simple country style with a bath and separate shower, fluffy towels and locally handmade soap.
In the bathroom cabinet you will find the little things that you may have forgotten to pack and
a hot water bottle complete with cashmere cover.
The suite also has its own sun-room with cane furniture and bi-fold windows, from the 1920’s,
which open out to view the old croquet lawn (presently being reconditioned), and up to the hills beyond.
(There is a wonderful New Zealand made croquet set for those who want to try this ancient game, commonly described as “cruel”).

The Wood Room

How could we call this room any thing else?  It is lined with the original wide Rimu boarding in the colonial style.
We confess that the tedious task of stripping the layers of paint from this room was not ours, but the end result is stunning.
The room has an air of old France.
The comfortable Queen bed is built of distressed iron, with vintage French linen and a fluffy duvet with a quilted French bed-cover.  This room also has a spacious sun-room complete with day bed and cane chairs looking towards the hills
across the old croquet lawn, through 1920’s bi-fold windows.
A private bathroom is designated exclusively for this room, just along the hallway.
It has a large bath with a shower overhead and of course, lovely towels and handmade soap.
