Anselm House is a landmark home designed by the famous New Zealand architect Heathcote Helmore and is constructed of pink Hanmer marble in which fossilised shells can be seen.

 Rococo Room with private ensuite bathroom
This spacious room features an Italian queen bed made of mahogany, which is ornately carved in the Rococo style. The view from the window is one of across our garden, over the Avon River and on through the trees to the grounds of historic Riccarton House. This room is ideal for couples on their honeymoon and those who require space for suitcase repacking. The private ensuite bathroom features shower, toilet and hand-basin, with heated Italian floor tiles and towel rail and a hair dryer.

Wake up to the sights and sounds of the Avon River which guests can admire from the large bay window. Look down on the ducks and the occasional trout, and through the trees across to the grounds of historic Riccarton House. The River room has a rimu queen bed and a private ensuite bathroom. The ensuite features a bath and shower, toilet and hand-basin, with heated Italian floor tiles and towel rail and a hair dryer.

 The lounge at Anselm House is a bright room that attracts the best sun of the day through a large bay window. Complete with art & craft furniture, widescreen TV, DVDs of iconic NZ films, and an open gas fire.
Anselm House will feel like home from home. Continental and full, cooked breakfasts are served each morning in the dining room or family room.

Enjoy Christchurch's warm, long summer evenings on the terrace at the edge of the Avon River. This is the ideal place to relax and unwind with a glass of New Zealand wine after a day of sight-seeing. Guests are welcome to enjoy the riverside garden or to cross over the brick bridge and visit historic Riccarton House and Deans Forest.

Anselm House is a non-smoking residence. Guests are welcome to smoke in the garden by the river. Because of the river boundary the property is not suitable for children. As New Zealanders, we offer friendly, genuine kiwi hospitality and we are willing to help with travel suggestions.

Location: On 23 Hyde Park bus route
From State Highway 1, at the roundabout by the airport; Turn up Memorial Avenue, go through 6 sets of lights on Memorial Avenue (Fendalton Road); At 6 sets of lights, turn right onto Straven Road; At next set of lights turn right onto Kahu Road; Continue approximately 300 metres, past the big blue sign saying Riccarton House & Park until you reach the brown brick bridge; Anselm House is the first house on the left over the bridge; Pull up in front of the blue/grey gates. |
