Milestone Cottages is an eco hamlet by the sea,
 where we provide a unique seaside accommodation experience.
Recognized by North and South magazine as one of the 10 most romantic cottages
in New Zealand, the combination of quiet seclusion, lush sub-tropical surroundings
 and the stunning coastal setting make Milestone Cottages
 an ideal getaway location or wedding venue.

The cottages are set around a palm fringed croquet lawn and swimming/lap pool
in a subtropical garden. Each cottage has its own garden.

Milestone Cottages are situated on the stunning Mangawhai Heads harbour. We are located within walking distance from a world class golf course, cafes and surf beaches.

 
Gumdigger’s Cottage

 This picturesque earthbrick cottage was influenced by the pioneers
 of the region who dug for Kauri gum.
The deck is elevated and looks across the beautiful Mangawhai harbor out to sea.

Gumdiggers Cottage has a Queensize bed and sleeps two.

      Gardners Cottage

The traditional building style of our English forebears influenced
 the designof this picturesque earthbrick building.
A portico, leadlight windows and lavender hedges
 reflect the nostalgic charm of this cottage.
The deck is elevated and looks across the croquet lawn and garden to the sea.
Gardners Cottages has a Kingsize bed which can be separated into two singles

 Schooner Cottage

   This spacious cottage overlooks the estuary, sand dunes and the Pacific beyond.
Watch the full moon rise over the sea!
The private gardens, deck and barbecue completes the feeling of your own seaside home.
A kingsize bed in an alcove in the lounge looking out to sea, plus a separate bedroom
with 2 single beds makes this an ideal cottage for two couples.
A separate entrance into the bedroom adds privacy.

   Palm Cottage

Nestled among large palm trees, this easily accessed cottage has views from every window of the subtropical garden.
 Designed to accommodate wheelchairs, this comfortable sunny cottage
has ramp access to the croquet lawn. 
Queen size bed. Separate bedroom with 2 single beds.
Bathroom (shower accommodates a wheelchair).
The maximum occupation for the Palm is 4 people.

Puka Cottage

Extensive seaviews are obtained from this elevated cottage.
The name is taken from the surrounding native Puka trees.
The window seat provides tranquil views of subtropical gardens,
shell paths, the pool and the sea beyond.
A comfortable lounge with a single bed plus a separate bedroom with a queensize bed.
The maximum occupation for the Puka is 3 people.

All of the cottages are fully equipped and self contained with a kitchen oven and microwave oven.
Each cottage has easy access to a barbecue if you enjoy cooking alfresco!
All cottages also have a TV and video, and we have an extensive library of videos which guests are free to borrow from any time.

Mangawhai is a quiet little beach resort, nestled between the coast and beautiful rolling farmland,
about an hour and a half north of Auckland, and just under an hour south of Whangarei on the Eastern side of Northland.
Wherever you go in Mangawhai you will enjoy the spectacular views of the Hen & Chickens, Sail Rock and Little Barrier
floating in blue seas or the tranquil beauty of the harbour and estuary.
